Afognak Wilderness Lodge | award-winning Alaska lodging & nature tours | Kodiak Fishing Lodges

Discover some of the best Kodiak Island fishing at Afognak Wilderness Lodge. We invite you on an unforgettable fishing adventure, where a bountiful catch is always in sight. Due to our prime location, world-class Alaska fishing is only minutes away from the lodge. We offer both saltwater and freshwater fishing opportunities, providing access to Pacific Halibut, various species of Rockfish (both pelagic and non-pelagic), Lingcod, as well as Sockeye, Pink, and Silver Salmon.

In our remote location, we hold a competitive advantage. You'll rarely encounter other fishing boats in our vicinity, ensuring ample opportunities to reel in catch after catch without interference from other boats and fishermen.

Fishing at Afognak Wilderness Lodge

Each morning, your guide will meet with you to make a tailored plan for the day, taking into account factors like tides, weather conditions, and your preferences. It's often advantageous to target multiple species, allowing us to optimize each day's fishing experience for you.

Our experienced USCG licensed Captains specialize in maximizing the enjoyment of your trip, ensuring every moment is memorable. The beauty of our service lies in our ability to combine fishing with wildlife viewing, packing plenty of excitement into your day and making us one of the more unique Kodiak fishing lodges.

On your fishing excursion, you will be provided a thoughtfully packed lunch, complete with snacks, freshly baked goods, and an assortment of beverages. And for dinner, with some advanced notice you can even have your freshly caught fish, skillfully prepared by our Chef.

Our stable catamaran boats ensure safe and comfortable travels. In circumstances where we are unable to go offshore due to adverse weather and sea conditions, our protected bays can provide opportunities for fishing in calmer waters. Additionally, the enclosed and heated cabins on the boats ensure cozy warmth even on chilly days. There is a bathroom onboard, adding to the overall convenience of your experience.

We welcome anglers of all levels, from first-timers to the experienced, and even children, providing world-class fishing experiences to all. Both seasoned and novice anglers alike will find joy and excitement in fishing with us.

At the end of each fishing day, your freshly caught fish are cleaned, filleted, vacuum-packed, and frozen. Upon your departure from the lodge, your fish is carefully packed in airline-approved waxed boxes, ensuring it remains frozen for your journey home.

Salt and Fresh-Water Fishing

Salt-Water Fishing

Afognak Island offers exceptional opportunities for halibut and salmon fishing. Additionally, our waters teem with plentiful Lingcod, Pelagic and non-pelagic Rockfish, and a special rockfish known as Yellow-eye. While these other species may not hold the same world famous reputation as halibut, many anglers argue they provide an even more enjoyable fishing and dining experience. Lingcod, in particular, are known for their vigorous fight and delicious, mild flavor. Meanwhile, the Yellow-eye stands out with its striking bright orange color and delicate, slightly sweet taste. At the end of each day, your catch will be filleted, vacuum-sealed, labeled, and frozen, ready for you to take home if you choose.

Fresh-Water Fishing

Among its most treasured attributes are the stunning streams and estuaries nestled within the island's geography. Afognak features idyllic settings perfect for freshwater fishing, where the remote and rugged wilderness ensures these spots (and the delicious wild fish) are enjoyed by a lucky few. During select parts of the summer, our guests can indulge in freshwater fishing, with Sockeye, Pink, and Silver Salmon. Sockeye Salmon, also known as Reds, grace our waters from June through mid-July, followed by Pinks, affectionately called Humpbacks, from mid-July through the end of August, and finally, Coho Salmon, known as Silvers, from late July through early October.
